School Age After School Program Teacher

Bucksport Area Child Care Center (BACCC)

The Bucksport Area Child Care Center is seeking a dedicated teacher to join our School Age After School Program.

The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for working with children, an open and positive mindset, and the ability to effectively oversee children ages 5-12. This role is a vital part of our childcare team and involves assisting with implementing daily schedules and age-appropriate curriculum.

Reports to: Lead Teacher and Center Director

OVERVIEW

The School Age After School Program Teacher assists with BACCC’s afterschool program (for students ages 5-12). The position requires active engagement with staff and students, monitoring of student behavior, assisting with implementation of lesson plans, and the ability to maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with the Lead Teacher and organizational partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Demonstrate respect, kindness, and care for every child
  • Assist with implementing age appropriate curriculum in reading, writing, math, and reasoning.
  • Assist with interactive activities promoting physical development, self-esteem, and social skills
  • Enforces classroom norms, behaviors, and BACCC policies and procedures
  • Track and documents children's developmental progress
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to children requiring extra care
  • Maintain positive working relationships with administrators, employees, students, and families
  • Helps manage and organize classroom materials, equipment, and spaces
  • Assists with maintaining a welcoming, clean, and safe environment
  • Notify the Lead Teacher of any unusual behaviors, health, or physical concerns
  • Assist in maintaining a clean work environment for children and staff
  • Assists with all closing procedures and ensure the security of the program facilities

Maine's Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Workforce Salary Supplement Program

BACCC staff are eligible for Maine's Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Workforce Salary Supplement Program. The program provides salary supplements to child care providers and early childhood educators who work directly with children in licensed facilities or family child care programs.

The program is based on a tiered system that considers the educator's level of education and experience, as well as the number of workers per tier and available funding.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Experience working with children; a degree in early childhood education is preferred
  • Physical ability to perform all necessary duties, including walking, swimming, reaching, lifting, eye-hand coordination, actively standing/monitoring, sitting/playing with children
  • Approved Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) and Background Check
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred
  • Ability to perform work requested by Lead Teacher
  • Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities that enhance the center’s performance and strengthen work performance
  • CDA or degree in ECE is a plus

HOURS

BACCC is open after standard business operating hours to support working families.

The position is a part time, afternoon position. The program runs daily from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. with the exception of holidays, school vacation, and summer break.

COMPENSATION

$15.15-15.50, rate is based on experience and qualifications, rate may be exceptionally raised.
