We are hiring a new Fiscal Biller to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant billing of mental health and behavioral health services within Buckelew Programs. This role supports the financial sustainability of the agency by preparing, submitting, and reconciling claims to government and private payers, while adhering to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as payer-specific requirements. The Fiscal Biller works closely with program, clinical, and finance staff to ensure proper documentation and maximize reimbursement for services rendered. Through this work, the Fiscal Biller contributes directly to a positive client experience and a workplace culture rooted in Buckelew’s mission and values.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, review, and submit electronic and paper claims to Medi-Cal, Medicare, managed care organizations, and other third-party payers.
- Verify authorization, eligibility, and coverage for clients prior to claim submission.
- Monitor claims for accuracy, compliance, and timeliness; correct and resubmit denials or rejections as needed.
- Reconcile payments, remittance advices, and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to ensure accurate posting to client accounts.
- Work with clinicians and program staff to resolve billing discrepancies, missing documentation, or coding errors.
- Maintain detailed records of claims activity, denials, appeals, and collections.
- Generate reports on billing activity, accounts receivable, and outstanding balances for management.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards in handling protected health information (PHI).
- Participate in audits, financial reviews, and compliance monitoring as requested.
- Assist in process improvement to enhance billing efficiency and revenue cycle management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or healthcare administration preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of billing experience, preferably in a behavioral health, non-profit, or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of Medi-Cal/Medicare billing, CPT/HCPCS coding, and mental health service documentation standards strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of billing regulations, compliance standards, and reimbursement processes.
- Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) and billing software systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with potential for hybrid/remote work depending on organizational policy.
