What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder - MIG position at Buchholz-Smith Inc.?
MIG Welder / Steel Fabricator
Buchholz-Smith Inc. — West Plains, MO
Buchholz-Smith Inc. is looking for a MIG Welder / Steel Fabricator to join our team in West Plains, Missouri.
We are a custom manufacturing and fabrication company specializing in industrial equipment, plating systems, tanks, and custom-fabricated components. Our work is different from a typical production welding job. Many of our projects are custom, so we are looking for someone who can read a drawing, figure out the job, fit it together, and build it correctly.
What You'll Be Doing
- MIG welding steel components and assemblies
- Fabricating and fitting steel parts from drawings and measurements
- Cutting, drilling, grinding, and preparing steel for fabrication
- Reading and understanding shop drawings, dimensions, and measurements
- Setting up welding equipment and selecting the appropriate settings
- Measuring and checking work for accuracy
- Building custom steel components and assemblies
- Working with other members of the fabrication team to complete projects
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Helping with other shop and fabrication tasks as needed
- Occasionally traveling with the company for customer installations, service work, or other projects
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who knows how to weld and fabricate, but just as importantly, someone who takes pride in their work.
The right person should be able to:
- MIG weld confidently
- Read a tape measure and basic fabrication drawings
- Understand fit-up, squareness, alignment, and weld placement
- Work independently once given a project
- Figure out problems instead of waiting for someone else to solve them
- Pay attention to detail
- Show up consistently and be dependable
- Work safely and keep their work area organized
- Take pride in building something correctly the first time
Previous welding or fabrication experience is preferred. We are willing to consider someone with less experience who has a strong work ethic, mechanical ability, and willingness to learn.
What We Offer
- Starting pay based on experience
- Full-time position
- Monday–Thursday schedule
- Three-day weekends
- Hands-on custom fabrication work
- Opportunity to learn and work on a variety of industrial projects
- Small-shop environment where your work actually matters
- Opportunity for increased responsibility and advancement
- Occasional paid road trips for customer installations and projects
The Bottom Line
This is a good opportunity for someone who likes building things, wants to work with their hands, and doesn't want to stand in the same spot doing the same weld all day.
Our projects vary, and you'll have the opportunity to work on different fabrication jobs throughout the shop. Some projects may also give you the opportunity to travel and see the finished work installed at customer facilities.
If you are a dependable MIG welder who takes pride in your work and wants to be part of a growing fabrication company, we want to hear from you.
Apply today and tell us about your welding and fabrication experience.
