System Administrator

If there were a family tree for BubbleUp, our System Administrators are pretty much the roots of the business. They keep things connected and ensure everyone has the tools and strength to do their jobs and meet the needs of our diverse customer base. Pretty important stuff in the digital landscape. 

 And while that did sound a little mushy, we really are passionate and excited about adding a System Administrator to BubbleUp – because that means growth. Plus, we love having another problem-solving, analytical mind on the team…especially one who knows there’s more to life than just “rebooting.” 

 This critical position at BubbleUp helps hold the reigns to the configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of our computer systems, network servers and virtualization. Basically, all the things that the rest of us are scared of and know nothing about.

 But more important than this list of all the things you need to know and will be doing, is you – the  person behind the magic. While technology helps us do the work, we know people make it happen.

Here’s what the job is about: 

• Installing and upgrading computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
• Troubleshooting hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
• Providing documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
• Performing or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
• Leading desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
• Planning, capacity, storage, and database performance
   Qualifications for System Administrator

A few things you’ll need: 

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
• 3-5 years of database, network administration, or system administration experience

• System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus
• CI/CD experience
• Familiarity with cloud architecture concepts: load balancing, autoscaling, high availability, Infrastructure-as-Code, disaster recovery
• Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
• Experience with scripting and automation tools (BASH & PHP)
• A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
• Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
• PCI and security/hardening

AWS- specific experience:

• EC2

• ASG
• ALB
• RDS
• CloudFormation

LAMP-Specific Experience:

• Tuning Apache and MYSQL
