BTM Company is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the design of custom machinery, automation equipment, tooling, and standard products. You’ll work in SolidWorks to turn concepts into manufacturable designs and collaborate directly with engineers, machinists, and machine builders on real-world equipment.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical problem solving, designing complex assemblies, and contributing to equipment that goes straight into production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design custom machines, tooling, fixtures, and automation components.
- Create accurate 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks.
- Update and improve existing designs and documentation.
- Apply GD&T, tolerances, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Generate Bills of Materials and engineering documentation.
- Support Application Engineers during concept development.
- Work with machine builders and machinists during assembly and troubleshooting.
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
Required Qualifications
- 3 years of mechanical design experience, ideally in machinery, automation, or tooling.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerances, fits, and mechanical interfaces.
- Knowledge of machining practices and manufacturability.
- Ability to collaborate with shop-floor teams and support prototype builds.
- Ability to work on-site in Marysville, MI.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing automation equipment or industrial tooling.
- Knowledge of clinching, piercing, or sheet metal joining processes.
- Associate degree, technical certificate, or engineering degree.
- Hands-on shop or assembly experience.
