Food Scientist/Technologist II

Your Responsibilities
Food Scientist/Technologist II assists, performs and directs operations of the Application Lab. This involves leading and coaching lab technicians through daily testing, defining and organizing test schedules, assuring that test procedures and results are documented and interpreting results as required for engineering or marketing understanding. Additionally, collaborating with engineers to provide design input based on testing to maximize cooking performance and the overall consumer experience. These positions function within the Design Engineering Department which is comprised of a team of associates in which the rapid development of highly featured, high value products is required. The department is comprised of three sections: New Product Development, Sustaining Engineering, and Labs & Approvals. New products are developed through concurrent engineering practices, requiring department members to understand critical inter-relationships between different departments. The ability to make sound design decisions based on product knowledge and manufacturing processes is key. This position requires an individual to be self-motivated, working with minimal supervision, while achieving high quality end results.
The pay range posted for this position is based on the location noted in the posting title. Exact compensation offered may vary based on your specific skillset and work location. If the position is bonus or incentive eligible then the payments range from 0% to 200% of target with details laid out within the plan document.

- Establish lab test plans, prepare test requests, with required documentation, for work in application lab, conduct required testing and prepare and report the final results and conclusions.
- Conducts performance testing of cooking products, analyzes test data, and writes comprehensive reports while developing products and competitive benchmark tests
- Monitors documentation of test units and test results.
- Develops cooking profile parameters (PID and 2 point) and monitors validation of developed profiles
- Determines convection baffle designs based on air flow patterns
- Writes requirements during project planning cycles
- Contributes to design and use of oven accessories
- Provides feedback to relevant teams concerning overall user experience
- Use various types of equipment (thermocouples, digital scales, data acquisition programs, LabView, National Instruments, pH meters, water activity meter, gas flow meters, color measurement systems, microwave leakage detector) to evaluate product function.
- Participates on Product Development Core Teams
- Collaborates with international engineering teams to implement global development goals
- Support production with on-line troubleshooting and de-bugging during pilot and after release to production.
- Supports technical service in determining various causes & fixes of problems reported from the field
- Debug issues and determine root cause failure analysis
- Assists in training and onboarding of new hires
- Work with others in projects/design reviews using experience and knowledge gained
- Presents testing data to global colleagues and participates on specialized global teams (i.e. Gas Network)
- Writes test procedures, data collection sheets and test protocol
- Performs work with high degree of latitude
- Serves as a mentor/coach for lab technicians
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Four-Year College – Consumer Science, Food Science or other Culinary/Sciences related field – Required
- 3-5 Years Experience – Home appliance or food industry – Required
- 5-7 Years Experience – Home appliance or food industry – Preferred
- Advanced understanding of Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) Control
- Advanced understanding of Engineering: System Dynamics and Controls
- Advanced understanding of Gas Technology: BTU ratings and how to accurately rate gas burners
- Advanced understanding of Air Flow: convection systems and air flow analysis
- CIELAB color space evaluation and other food analysis techniques: water activity, moisture loss, and pH values
- Understands visual and digital color management systems
- Ability to view appliances from both technical and user-friendly mindset
- Advanced knowledge of automatic cooking programs and app-based software (i.e. Home Connect
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office Tools: Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
- Advanced knowledge to set-up and use various lab tools (thermocouples, digital scales, data acquisition programs, LabView, National Instruments, pH meters, water activity meter, gas flow meters, color measurement systems, microwave leakage detector).
- Advanced knowledge and experience of impacts product modifications and the impact to cooking performance. Ability to determine testing needed based on changes to appliances.
- Experience with data analytics ranging from basic statistics to dynamic data sets

- Ability to handle confidential information relating to strengths and weaknesses of product performance, and product development plans and schedules.
