Job Description

Summary:    

A systems technician installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical and propulsion systems on boats and other watercraft. Key duties include installing new equipment, testing, inspecting and troubleshooting systems.  Performing routine maintenance, making repairs, and sometimes repairing existing systems. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical skills, the ability to read technical data, and often involves hands-on work in various conditions.

Pay Range     Level III $27- $33

Duties:   

  • Communicate effectively by collaborating with team members and clearly conveying technical information to clients. 
  • Follow safety protocols and industry standards, and ensure work meets quality requirements.  Wear appropriate PPE and demonstrate safe marine manufacturing practices. Comply with safety standards required by the company and regulatory bodies.
  • Read and interpret plans, drawings, work orders, technical specifications, or verbal instructions to plan work.
  • Install new equipment: Install systems and components such as tanks, pumps, generators, engines and other equipment
  • Conduct maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on engines, generators, and other systems to ensure they are functioning properly and safely
  • Perform repairs: Repair or replace damaged parts, wires, pumps, and other components. This can include work on steering, fuel, and cooling systems
  • Obtain and maintain proper workplace training and certifications. 
  • Participate in regular/required meetings. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:   

  • Technical expertise: Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge of marine systems.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Physical ability: Capability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Tool proficiency: Ability to use both hand tools and specialized power equipment, as well as diagnostic software.
  • 3-4 years of experience relevant to vessel systems/equipment (e.g. hydraulics, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical). 
  • Basic mathematical skills required in manufacturing environment. 
  • HS diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • Must be 18 years of age and eligible to work in the US. 
  • ABYC Certification preferred. Additional certifications will be considered an asset. 
  • Familiarity with marine regulations (ABYC, USCG, etc.) preferred. 
  • Must be able to work in a physically demanding manufacturing and shipyard environment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, kneel, and lift/move materials up to 50 lbs. as part of daily tasks.
  • Must be able to work around noise, vibration, and standard environmental conditions consistent with fabrication and marine manufacturing work.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE for the duration of the shift.
  • Must be able to safely perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Environment:  Work is performed in a metal manufacturing environment or outdoors in all types of weather. Noise level can vary from moderate to high. The use of safety PPE (e.g. respirator, hand/hearing/eye protection) is required.

Continuous physical effort is required (standing, walking, stooping, climbing stairs, grasping/reaching, lifting/moving items up to 50 pounds). The employee is occasionally required to work from a ladder and/or scaffolding and occasionally required to carry a load in these positions.
