Position Purpose & Focus

The Director of Commercial Property & Casualty is responsible for leading, developing, and growing Bryson’s Commercial P&C practice. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to the team while ensuring exceptional client service, strong technical execution, consistent processes, and sustainable growth.


The Director will lead and develop a high-performing team, drive accountability, strengthen carrier relationships, oversee department processes and procedures, and ensure effective use of EPIC, Bryson’s CRM and agency management system.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Commercial P&C team while fostering accountability, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear expectations, commitments, and performance goals while monitoring progress and providing coaching and support to ensure results.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones and team meetings to review priorities, performance, and development.
  • Partner with leadership on recruiting, onboarding, succession planning, and employee development.
  • Lead the growth strategy for the Commercial P&C practice, including new business, retention, account rounding, and cross-selling.
  • Partner with the Director of Producer Growth & Development to identify opportunities, and achieve department revenue and retention goals.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and hold the team accountable for achieving results.
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and long-term business planning.
  • Serve as a senior resource for key and complex commercial clients and support escalated client matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, carriers, wholesalers, and strategic partners.
  • Support Account Managers in developing coverage strategies, identifying markets, and negotiating favorable terms.
  • Oversee key Commercial P&C operational processes, including Certificates of Insurance (COIs), company MVR requirements, carrier appointment paperwork, documentation, tracking, and follow-up, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Partner closely with the VP of Strategic Accounts to ensure continuity of key client relationships, align account strategies, and provide a seamless transition of leadership responsibilities.
  • Represent Bryson in client, carrier, and industry meetings as appropriate.
  • Develop, document, and maintain standardized Commercial P&C processes, procedures, workflows, and service standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accountability, consistency, and scalability across the department.
  • Oversee timely and accurate processing of carrier appointment paperwork and related documentation.
  • Champion effective and consistent use of EPIC across the Commercial P&C team.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of client activity, renewals, sales opportunities, account information, and team commitments.
  • Leverage EPIC reporting and technology to improve visibility, accountability, workflow, and department performance.
  • Support ongoing team training and adoption of EPIC best practices.
  • Partner with Employee Benefits, Retirement, Wealth Management, Life, and other Bryson teams to identify cross-selling and client relationship opportunities.
  • Promote collaboration across departments and contribute to company-wide strategic initiatives.


Qualifications, Competencies, Success Factors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field preferred.
  • 10 years of commercial property & casualty insurance experience, with progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products, markets, and brokerage operations.
  • Active California Property & Casualty license required.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing insurance professionals.
  • Demonstrated success in commercial insurance growth, client retention, and relationship management.
  • Experience with middle-market and complex commercial accounts preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective processes and procedures.
  • Strong EPIC experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on.
