The Bryan County School System is accepting applications for a School Nutrition Internship.
Job Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be actively enrolled in a college/university pursuing a degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Hospitality Management, Public Health, or a related field and be in his/her junior or senior year of studies. In collaboration with the School Nutrition Department leadership, the successful candidate will support daily school nutrition operations and initiatives designed to promote healthy eating habits and efficient meal service for students.
The intern will assist with menu planning support, nutrition education initiatives, compliance with federal and state child nutrition regulations, food safety practices, and special nutrition projects. The successful candidate may also help with data collection, reporting, and program evaluation related to participation, meal quality, and operational efficiency. This internship provides hands-on experience in a K–12 school nutrition environment while supporting the district’s goals, vision, mission, and commitment to student wellness.
The opening and closing dates of the internship are an estimated timeframe we anticipate will be needed to gather a strong pool of candidates. The district reserves the right to remove the internship if it deems an acceptable pool of qualified candidates has been obtained. It is in the best interest of interested candidates to apply early.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of basic nutrition principles and child nutrition programs
- Interest in school food service operations, student wellness, and nutrition education
- Ability to assist with menu planning, nutritional analysis, and documentation as directed
- Understanding of or willingness to learn federal and state school nutrition regulations (USDA guidelines)
- Computer skills as required for the position, including proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office
- Ability to collect, organize, and analyze basic data for reports and projects
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and confidentiality standards
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Must be able to take initiative, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Ability to communicate courteously, work effectively, and collaborate with colleagues from all levels of the organization and with people of all ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds
