Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment, monitoring anesthesia, and providing support throughout treatments.
- Perform animal restraint using safe handling techniques for various species, including dogs and cats.
- Conduct laboratory tests such as blood draws (phlebotomy), urinalysis, and other diagnostic procedures to aid in accurate diagnosis.
- Operate medical equipment including radiology machines for diagnostic imaging like X-ray and radiology diagnostics.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments accurately following veterinary instructions while monitoring patient responses.
- Maintain aseptic technique during procedures to prevent infections and ensure patient safety.
- Support pet owners with pet care advice, grooming recommendations, and education on administering medications and preventative medications.
- Handle animal catheterization, IV insertion, vascular access, and critical care procedures with precision and confidence.
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and supporting dental cleanings or extractions. Perform dental x-rays on each dental patient to provide the best care.
- Manage laboratory samples efficiently while maintaining detailed records for diagnostic purposes. Properly package and ship samples to the lab as needed.
Experience
- Graduation from an accredited veterinary technician program with licensure is highly desirable.
- Will consider a graduate from an accredited veterinary technician program that is not licensed.
- Demonstrated veterinary technician experience with knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal physiology.
- Experience in veterinary critical care or emergency medicine is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with general anesthesia protocols and anesthesiology techniques for various species.
- Proficiency in diagnostic radiology including X-ray operation and radiology diagnostics.
- Hands-on experience with pet grooming, dog training, or pet care enhances your ability to connect with animals and clients effectively.
- Ability to perform laboratory tasks such as phlebotomy and laboratory testing confidently.
