Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, in Brunswick, Maine, seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and energetic 

people-person with strong communication skills to lead our beloved Summer Nature Day Camp

(“CREA Camp”) and to serve in a year-round leadership role as our Director of Education. This position

Hours: 36 hours per week, year-round (*Note that these year-round hours are an average across the year; 

the camp director will need to be on-site, full time, for 42 hrs/week during the 7 weeks summer camp is in 

session, and correspondingly fewer hours during winter months)


Compensation: $56,160 annual salary, plus benefits including health insurance, retirement, paid vacation 

and sick time, 13 paid holidays, access to free BTLT’s CREA Summer Camp, regular staff potlucks & 

volunteer outings, and some remote work options.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee the wide range of environmental educational programs offered by BTLT, ensuring that these 

programs carry out our mission in alignment with strategic plan goals

• Develop and manage budgets and annual work plans for the education department.

• Supervise education department staff year-round, and oversee progress on projects and deliverables.

• Write and manage grants to support education initiatives.

• Lead occasional community programs & represent the organization at public events.

• Collaborate with other departments to integrate education & community outreach goals.

• Work closely with leadership team to carry out department head duties, such as aiding with BTLT 

operations and implementation of strategic plan

• Serves as CREA Camp Director, leading all aspects of camp operations (see below).


Responsibilities specific to camp:

 Plan, organize, and oversee 7 weeks of nature-based summer camp for campers ages 6-13 and 

Counselors in Training ages 13-17.

 Develop and manage the annual camp budget.

 Recruit, hire, train, and supervise seasonal camp staff and volunteers.

 Create a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for campers and staff.

 Maintain compliance with all state licensing requirements and safety standards.

 Administer camp registration & payment system, including using Jotform, Excel, Paypal, and 

extensive communication with parents over email.

 Oversee camp operations and staff for 7 weeks while camp is in session, including a focus on 

leadership training for counselors-in-training (CITs)

 Plan themes & activities for camp, including ordering all needed supplies.

Qualifications: 

 At least 2 years experience directing or coordinating youth programs, outdoor education, or camps.

 Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

 Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.

 Be comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and engaging with children, families, and community 

partners.

 Experience in grant writing (preferred)

 Hold child & adult First Aid/CPR and/or WFA certification (or willingness to obtain).

 Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and keen attention to detail; 

 Be proficient in Microsoft programs, particularly Excel and Word; e-mail; and technology;

 Be able to manage diverse tasks, effectively prioritize and manage time, and meet deadlines;

 Have excellent interpersonal skills;

 Be able to pay close attention to confidentiality.
