What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Inspector I position at Brunswick Regional Water & Sewer H2GO?
Performs routine skilled and technical construction inspection work for environmental, water, sewer, private development and other public works projects and programs. Work is performed under the general guidance and direction of the Chief Construction Inspector.
Essential Job Functions
- Inspecting and participating in the supervision of water and sewer construction and installation of public and private development ensuring construction is in accordance with approved plans and H2GO standards.
- Informing contractors and/or developers of correction items and assisting the Chief Construction Inspector in issuing notices or letters of approval as required.
- Documenting field conditions, maintaining records of construction and inspection progress, and noting as-built conditions on engineering drawings for in-house staff and outside engineers.
- Coordinating inspections and testing schedules with contractors, utility companies, and property owners.
- Inspecting construction work under excavation, clearing, and grading permits.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local codes, standards and contractual provisions.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders throughout all phases of the project for administrative and technical input.
- Providing information and responding to inquiries from contractors, property owners, staff, and the public regarding private development and projects.
- Performing work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
- Managing public relations.

- High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
- 0-2 years of utility construction inspection experience or related experience.
- Applicable Distribution and/or Sewer Collections Operator Certifications preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members across the organization.
- Ability to read and understand operating manuals.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and utility design plans.
- Basic math skills.
- Valid NC Driver’s License with good driving record.
Physical and Cognitive Demands Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, hearing, standing, walking and reaching; work has standard vision requirements; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). The field environment consists of all types of terrain and weather conditions. May be exposed to strenuous and often time hazardous working conditions, including but not limited to, harsh and dangerous chemicals, direct sun light, moving equipment, high traffic areas, pressurized water lines, heights, confined spaces, trenches, darkness, electrical and hydraulic energy, etc. Protective equipment and clothing may be required.
