TITLE: JUNIOR VARSITY (JV) CHEER COACH
LOCATION: BRUNSWICK HIGH SCHOOL
PAY: MONTHLY STIPEND BASED CONTRACT (AUGUST - JANUARY)
START DATE: IMMEDIATELY
REPORTS TO: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND/OR BUILDING PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS: The Junior Varsity (JV) Cheer Coach leads and develops student-athletes in cheer fundamentals, promotes school spirit, and prepares students for future varsity participation. The coach fosters a positive, team-oriented environment focused on growth and sportsmanship. Preferred candidates have prior cheer coaching experience (ideally at the high school level), strong knowledge of techniques and safety practices, and effective communication, organizational, and motivational skills. The ability to work well with students, staff, and families is essential.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Plans and conducts regular practices to develop cheerleading skills, teamwork, and routines.
2. Organizes tryouts and evaluates athletes to determine JV team placement.
3. Encourages participation and helps build interest in the cheer program among students.
4. Teaches rules, safety protocols, techniques, and performance standards to individuals and the team.
5. Collaborates with the Athletic Director to schedule practices, events, and facility usage.
6. Attends games, pep rallies, and other school functions to lead and support school spirit activities.
7. Promotes sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork on and off the mat.
8. Supervises students at all times during practices, events, and travel.
9. Maintains academic eligibility records and encourages student-athletes to succeed academically.
10. Responds appropriately to injuries and follows all emergency protocols.
11. Communicates with parents and guardians as needed regarding student progress and team matters.
12. Enforces school and athletic policies, maintaining high standards of behavior and integrity.
13. Helps with cheer-related communications, including announcements, social media, and booster events.
14. Assists with ordering uniforms and supplies, and maintains an accurate inventory.
15. Supports and attends special events such as parent nights, banquets, award ceremonies, and team celebrations.
16. Ensures all required documentation (eligibility forms, emergency contacts, insurance info) is completed and updated.
17. Demonstrates fairness and inclusivity in all team activities.
Additional Duties:
Attends required staff meetings, coaching clinics, and professional development.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Coaching contract stipend with compensation as approved by School Board policies and regulations.
