Position: Development Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Supervises: Community Engagement Coordinator and development volunteers/interns
Location: Bolivia, NC

Position Summary
This is a new position within the organization, created to establish and lead a formal development program for BFA. The Development Manager will be responsible for building BFA’s fundraising and development infrastructure from the ground up, including developing our first comprehensive development plan, implementing donor management systems, and formalizing strategies for donor engagement, events, and grants.
We seek a mission-driven and strategic professional who can balance big-picture vision with hands-on execution. This position will play a critical role in securing the resources necessary to advance BFA’s mission and ensure long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Execution
- Create BFA’s first comprehensive development plan, including clear revenue goals and metrics for success.
- Design, launch, and implement effective fundraising campaigns, including annual appeals, major-giving, planned-giving, recurring-donation, and digital-fundraising efforts.
- Manage daily development operations, including donor outreach, campaign planning, donation processing, and acknowledgments.
- Track and report on fundraising progress to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Fundraising Committee.
Donor Engagement & Stewardship
- Build and maintain strong relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors through personalized outreach and engagement strategies.
- Develop stewardship programs to recognize, retain, and grow donor relationships.
- Analyze donor trends and data to inform fundraising strategy.
Events & Community Engagement
- Partner with the Community Engagement Coordinator to plan and execute fundraising and cultivation events that increase organizational visibility and align with revenue goals.
- Develop partnerships with community organizations, volunteers, and local businesses to support fundraising and outreach efforts.
Grants Management
- Identify, research, and apply for foundation, corporate, and municipal grants.
- Manage grant compliance, reporting, and budget tracking, support program staff in meeting grant deliverables.
Operations & Collaboration
- Maintain accurate donor records and ensure data integrity within BFA’s CRM system.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Board Members, and Fundraising Committee to align fundraising goals with organizational strategy.
- Serve as the internal lead for development systems, processes, and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, donor relations, or grant writing.
- Experience establishing or significantly expanding a development program is highly desirable.
- Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor management systems (e.g., SalesForce, Greater Giving, etc.); experience with digital marketing and social media tools a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or donor meetings.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license and clean driving record required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Rate: $60,000 - $70,000 (Exempt Employee)
