What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Inspector/Investigator position at Brunswick County?
A Fire Inspector/Investigator independently conducts state-mandated fire inspections in accordance with the North Carolina Fire Code as well as performs field inspections for new construction projects. This position also responds to emergency scenes and provides technical support for fire origin and cause investigations while working closely with the Deputy Code Administrator - Fire Marshal.
This role requires significant time conducting field inspections across a variety of community and common areas of multi-family residential properties. The position also requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule to respond to emergency situations.
Associate degree in fire science, fire technology, fire protection, fire engineering, arson investigation, building design, construction, fire/business, public administration, or a related field plus one year of responsible experience performing fire inspections, investigations, and related work such as plan review, construction, and/or building inspections; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Special Requirements
- Must possess a Probationary Fire Level III certification within thirty (30) days of hire from the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board.
- Must obtain a Standard Fire Level III Inspector certification from the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board prior to the expiration of the probationary certification.
- Must obtain an NC-FIT certification from the North Carolina Department of Insurance OSFM or IAAI-FIT certification from the International Association of Arson Investigators within three (3) years of employment.
- Must obtain an NC-CFI certification from the North Carolina Department of Insurance OSFM or IAAI-CFI certification from the International Association of Arson Investigators within five (5) years of employment.
