Brunel is recruiting Construction Superintendents to work in Carlsbad, NM for initially 1 year contract.
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling day-to-day field construction activities for assigned crafts and subcontractors. This role typically functions as a Field Superintendent or Area Superintendent and supports the successful execution of major capital construction projects.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing daily construction operations and ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This includes:
- Planning, coordinating, and controlling field construction activities
- Managing assigned crafts and subcontractors
- Serving as the link between field execution and the Construction Site Manager or Site Lead
- Participating as a member of the Project Team when assigned
- Executing assigned construction activities within project scope
- Reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications
- Managing schedule, budget, and construction progress
- Working with multi-discipline engineering teams
- Supervising field crews and earthwork equipment operations
- Responding to field and client inquiries
- Promoting and enforcing worker safety programs
- Overseeing contractor fabrication, construction, and hookup activities
- Monitoring quality and progress during the execution phase
Transmission Line & Utility Scope:
This role will specifically support 115 kV transmission line construction, including:
- Overseeing direct embed and drilled pier structures
- Managing conductor pulling (single phase and bundled)
- Monitoring pulls over county and state roadways
- Performing Quality Assurance checks on installations
- Walking and riding down lines to create punch lists
- Verifying proper structure grounding
- Supporting contractor planning and execution
- Intervening when unsafe conditions are observed
Safety & Compliance:
The Superintendent must demonstrate strong knowledge of electrical and construction safety standards, including:
- NFPA 70E
- Minimum Approach Distance
- Ground set placement
- PPE and PPE inspections
- Safe work practices around energized systems
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in construction planning, execution, and completions
- Prior experience as a Construction Superintendent on large capital projects
- Knowledge of construction materials testing and ASTM standards
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
- Self-starter with strong commitment to client service
- Prior utility or transmission line experience preferred
