We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team and take a lead role in new product development, aircraft installation programs, and continuous product improvement.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing engineering position for someone who enjoys taking projects from concept through design, manufacturing, certification support, and final aircraft installation.
- Lead customer engineering programs from concept through production launch and aircraft installation.
- Design mechanical products and installation solutions that meet customer requirements and applicable FAA/aerospace standards.
- Develop 3D models, drawings, mechanical analyses, installation documentation, and technical data packages.
- Conduct aircraft/site surveys and evaluate installation requirements, interfaces, dimensions, and design constraints.
- Lead prototype development, testing, design reviews, and design-for-manufacturability activities.
- Partner with Sales and Marketing to evaluate RFP/RFQ requirements, technical scope, engineering effort, cost, and risk.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, suppliers, and customers to resolve technical issues.
- Identify cost-reduction and productivity opportunities through design simplification, material/component alternatives, standardization, and improved manufacturability.
- Support product certification and qualification activities, including applicable DO-160 or similar aerospace requirements.
- Perform root-cause analysis and develop sustainable solutions for design, production, supplier, installation, and field issues.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to other team members.
- Travel up to 30%, including customer meetings, aircraft surveys, installations, testing, and technical support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s preferred.
- 5 years of mechanical product design experience preferred.
- 3 years of SolidWorks 3D modeling experience preferred.
- Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication.
- Experience with plastic molded component design.
- Aerospace design/certification experience, including DO-160, MIL-461, or similar requirements, preferred.
- Experience independently managing engineering projects and customer programs.
- Strong technical writing skills, including specifications, proposals, test procedures, installation documents, and other formal engineering documentation.
- Strong project management, organization, problem-solving, and risk-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated customer-facing experience.
- Self-motivated with the ability to drive projects to completion with minimal supervision.
- Field engineering or aircraft installation experience is a plus.
- Experience using AI tools to support business or engineering needs is a plus.
- Ability to travel worldwide as needed.
