Primary Purpose:
To perform skilled general maintenance work with primary responsibility for plumbing systems in district facilities, ensuring safe, functional, and code-compliant operation of water, waste, and related building systems.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid plumber’s license (journeyman or master) preferred but not required
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Experience in plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation (preferred)
Knowledge of basic plumbing code requirements
Ability to read blueprints and plumbing schematics (preferred)
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Experience:
2 years plumbing experience or 4 years general maintenance experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
1. Perform routine and emergency plumbing repairs including fixtures, faucets, flush valves, supply lines, P-traps, and minor drain stoppages.
2. Repair and replace toilets, sinks, urinals, water heaters (as permitted), and associated hardware.
3. Diagnose plumbing issues and determine appropriate repair methods.
4. Conduct preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment.
5. Maintain plumbing systems in compliance with local and state codes.
6. Coordinate with licensed plumbing contractors when required by law.
7. Maintain accurate work order documentation and material usage records.
8. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Safety
10. Maintain inventory of district owned tools, equipment, and materials. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
11. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
12. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
13. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
