Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Driver Recruiting to lead our driver talent acquisition initiatives in Ooltewah, TN. This role is accountable for developing and executing a scalable, data-driven recruiting strategy that ensures full driver capacity, supports operational growth, and improves retention.
Partnering closely with Operations, Safety, and HR, the Director leads workforce planning, recruiting execution, and onboarding alignment to deliver a consistent pipeline of qualified drivers while maintaining compliance and cost discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the annual driver recruiting capacity plan, ensuring alignment with operational demand and budget targets.
- Ensure all seated truck capacity is maintained through proactive, targeted recruiting strategies and campaigns.
- Lead, manage, and hold accountable a recruiting team to deliver consistent productivity and compliance with CVO qualification standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. (DOT, ADA, OSHA, etc..)
- Design and implement recruiter performance metrics, quotas, and incentive/bonus structures to drive results.
- Analyze recruiting data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate effectiveness of advertising channels, sourcing strategies, and recruiter performance; adjust strategy accordingly.
- Oversee the training, coaching, and professional development of recruiting staff to build a best-in-class recruiting organization.
- Foster a collaborative, performance-driven culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and results.
- Partner with Operations, Safety, and Human Resources to ensure alignment across recruiting, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
- Support startup and existing operations through travel and on-site engagement to ensure adequate driver staffing levels.
- Establish and maintain strong, responsive relationships with recruiting vendors and third-party partners.
- Maintain proficiency in recruiting and operational systems, including applicant tracking systems (e.g., Tenstreet), other recruiting technologies.
- Stay current on industry trends, labor market conditions, emerging technologies, and best practices in driver recruiting namely in social media and company branding.
- Perform special projects and additional duties as assigned by the President & EVP of Operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree or 7 years of relevant transportation and recruiting experience.
- Proven leadership experience managing a CDL/driver recruiting function, with a track record of delivering measurable results.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate data into actionable plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, federal and state labor laws, and employment compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and recruiting/transportation systems.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Requires 25–30% travel to company locations, including startup and existing operations.
- Frequent use of phone, computer, and other standard office equipment.
- Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours), as well as stand, walk, and climb stairs as needed.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
- Exposure to operational environments, including tractor/trailer activity, diesel fumes, dust, and noise.
