Description

SUMMARY:

Assists and relieves attorneys, secretaries and other personnel of administrative and clerical work by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

•    Read, scan, document and route incoming mail
•    Prepare outgoing mail, including mailing labels, CMRRR, messenger and overnight courier forms
•    Maintain document files, including tabbing and indexing litigation files
•    Input attorney time
•    Coordinate the completion of photocopy, fax and messenger requests 
•    Draft and prepare legal and non-legal documents (e.g., pleadings, summonses, com-plaints, motions, subpoenas, general correspondence, etc.)
•    Perform other clerical duties such as scheduling hearings and appointments, answering telephones and giving information to callers (as directed and as       appropriate requiring discretion)
•    Transcribe, compose and type routine correspondence
•    Relieve receptionist

Qualifications


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

 Education and/or Experience:

 High school diploma or equivalent; knowledge of format, procedures and specialized terminology

    
    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence and memoranda; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to spell

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

    Other Skills and Abilities:

    Ability to type a minimum of 45 wpm utilizing current word processing software; ability to use computer, photocopy, fax and other equipment to complete documents; ability to establish and maintain cordial and courteous working relation-ships with co-workers, other firm employees and outside contacts in a fast-paced demanding environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to come and go repeatedly throughout the day as necessary; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel or crouch in order to retrieve and shelve files, make labels, send/receive faxes and perform other secretarial duties.  Capacity to pick up, leaf through and read books, files and other materials.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
