What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinist US position at Brown Machine Group?
QUALITY SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITY:
Irrespective of other responsibilities, have the freedom and authority to initiate action to prevent product non-conformity, identify and record quality problems, recommend solutions, verify implementation, and control further process until the deficiency has been corrected.
POSITION SCOPE:
Maintain, set-up, and operate equipment efficiently maximizing machine utilization and produce parts to required specifications per the production schedule.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
- Assure that material to be machined is correct for the job.
- Select and use appropriate tooling.
- Program and/or operate machine at proper speeds and feeds for material being machined.
- Understand feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences.
- Perform needed metrology sections and report issues.
- Assist in training personnel when appropriate including machine, job, fixture, and part specific issues as they arise on a day-to-day basis.
- Responsible for meeting performance goals for scrap, rework, labor efficiency and downtime.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accept temporary or permanent assignment to a machine or machine group as per company policy.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures and policies as outlined in the BMG Employee Handbook.
- Maintain good housekeeping in work area.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Four years experience as a machinist preferred.
- Proficient in reading CNC G-Code language preferred.
- Basic math skills to include trigonometry, etc.
- Experience in reading blueprints and GD&T.
- Ability to multi-task without losing efficiency or accuracy.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal instruction.
- Ability to work with minimum tolerances of .0005”.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Basic tool requirement.
ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lift, push, and pull up 35 to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Walk for extended periods of time.
- May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform sustained manual activities at low to moderate levels of exertion.
- Must be able to access and navigate within each department at the organization’s facilities (i.e. climb stairs, ladders, etc.)
