What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Structural Engineer position at Brown + Kubican Structural Engineers?
Empower & Inspire....that's our motto.
What in the world do those two words have to do with Structural Engineering?
You've heard the phrase: "if these walls could talk...." We imagine that phrase to include the foundations, columns, framing, everything that makes the bones of a building. We've had those conversations where our significant other's eyes glaze over when you're talking about the glorious efficiency of a truss, or how the mass dampeners in high rise buildings work, or even the intricacies of mix design for concrete.
Each structure tells a story, and that story has a beginning in the mind of a structural engineer that was sparked by the idea of an Architect or Owner who has a need, and maybe even a dream.
We take inspiration from those stories, and we empower our engineers and the clients and owners and contractors we work with to make those stories reality. That reality transforms other people's realities by the interaction with the buildings where healing, working, entertainment, worship, education....all the things people do....occurs.
And doing that really well? That makes work not just work, but a calling.
If you read all this and it resonates, you need to work at BK. We are looking for you.
Our Chattanooga office is recently up and running and needs an experienced structural engineer with at least 8 years experience. You enjoy working and sharing your knowledge with younger engineers who are eager to learn. You jump into Revit when needed, but are comfortable working with drafters too. You know how to work to your highest function. You can work confidently with analysis software, but like to employ the "smell check", because your experience counts for something.
You like varieties of sectors and project sizes - that variety lets you move in and out of sectors you may not have experience with because no matter what, it's structural engineering. That breadth of experience adds tremendous value to non-traditional projects. You ask questions when going into uncharted territory. You love working for a "small" company that works on interesting projects and makes a point of avoiding boring.
You value a company that goes above and beyond on in-house training to make sure everyone is growing and confident in their work, and has an environment that encourages communication when that is not true.
You do not tolerate less than excellent. The drawings that represent your design tell a story, and you desire at all times to make it the best it can be. And you appreciate that the place you work highly prioritizes "Excellence" as one of our key core values.
You are a team player, and seek to make all members of that team - from the intern who's just started to the end user 20 years from now - successful. You treat others as you expect to be treated - as a valued person who brings your individual gifts to the table and appreciated for it.
You dislike too much hierarchy. The intern can go straight to the most experienced person with a question at any time.
You love working to your strengths - both for yourself and others.
You believe fun can also happen at work and with your teammates!
If you are STILL reading, reach out now. Let's make this happen!
