What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Carpenter (#BIC) position at Brown Industrial Construction?
The Carpenter must have the knowledge and ability to build & set forms related to concrete foundation construction while maintaining relevant safety & quality standards. This includes, interpreting blueprints & related drawings, calculating material takeoffs from drawings, advanced layout, use of measure & level instruments, ability to use transit, provide finish carpentry work, install batter boards, use of simon forms, layout of anchor bolts, ability to tie rebar, build scaffold, set screeds, & ability to operate pneumatic and electric power tools.

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee works from platforms at height. The employee walks and works on unlevel, steep, slippery, wet, muddy, & inconsistent ground. The employee must have excellent stamina.

- Read blueprints, layout, use level instruments & transits, & read tape/ruler
- Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy construction projects.
- Ability to perform all physical tasks involved in setting forms & anchor bolts, tying rebar, building scaffolding, perform finish carpentry, set screeds, install batter boards, & operate manual, pneumatic, & electric power tools.
- Assist in placing & finishing concrete.
- Is trained in rigging & safety harness use.
- Works from heights on various platform types.
- Excavates and fills trenches and ditches.
- Maintains a clean job site; picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
- Performs materials handling and storage.
- Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials.
- Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director or HR manager.
