What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Handler at Dog Hotel position at Brown Dog Inn?
Evening Dog Care Specialist
Brown Dog Inn | Freeport, Maine
Shift: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Brown Dog Inn is seeking a responsible, detail-driven Evening Dog Care Specialist to join our professional dog care team. This shift mainly involves the feeding/med admin, wind down and get calm before tuck in routine! Lots of chores, while doling our delicious treats to furry guests!
We are not a dog daycare. We are a boutique overnight retreat, offering nature-based enrichment, peaceful group experiences, and the highest standards of balance for long-term canine care.
About the Role:
- Lead or assist activities wherever the team needs support, maintaining a calm, organized flow
- Perform health checks to ensure wellness and behavioral observations are documented and communicated through the correct channels
- Maintain pristine, cozy, and safe environments through thorough cleaning and sanitizing tasks
- Communicate clearly with teammates to ensure smooth care transitions
- Tuck in our guests safely and lovingly at the end of each night, creating a peaceful close to their day
- Take pride in the space around you — the little things are what matter
This is a long-term position for someone who values hard work, consistency, and a connection to animals and nature.
What We’re Looking For:
✨ Dependable and self-motivated adults.
✨ Physically capable of walking dogs on uneven trails and lifting light loads (like towels, supplies)
✨ Takes pride in keeping spaces clean, cozy, and ready for guests
✨ Positive attitude, flexible mindset, and willingness to learn our systems
✨ Able to follow detailed safety and cleanliness procedures
✨ Long-term fit preferred — weekends required
✨ Open, fun, respectful, peaceful, and creative personalities welcome to join our like-minded crew!
-Prior experience in structured animal care, veterinary support, boarding, or enrichment-focused settings is preferred.
-Backgrounds in creative arts, hospitality, teaching, restaurants, landscaping, and customer service are also strong foundations for this work.
(Please note: Dog daycare experience is not our model. We prioritize calm, quality-focused enrichment over chaotic, high-volume environments.)
-Attention to detail and understanding the goal of our work — to maintain a safe and calm environment because it matters to the dogs — is essential.
What We Offer:
- $17–$24/hour starting pay (depending on experience)
- Tips
- 401(k) plan with employer match
- Bonus opportunities
- Supportive, professional, and positive team culture
- Training in boutique, enrichment-based dog care practices
Our Culture:
We take pride in maintaining a professional, peaceful, and supportive environment for both our team and our guests.
At Brown Dog Inn, we value calm energy, open communication, and mutual respect — both in our daily work and throughout our community culture.
We follow a clear communications guideline and maintain an open-door policy to encourage participation, feedback, and teamwork.
All team members are expected to actively engage in our two daily staff meetings, ensuring transparency, collaboration, and a shared focus on exceptional care.
