Job Summary
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will lead, develop, and oversee the Business Development department in supporting customers to find the vehicle that is right for them. This role is responsible for managing a team of Business Development Coordinators, driving process improvement, ensuring exceptional customer engagement across all communication channels, and partnering with sales leadership to maximize appointment setting, lead conversion, and customer retention.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Hire, train, coach, and manage a team of Business Development Coordinators; set performance goals, conduct regular reviews, and foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Customer Engagement Oversight: Ensure all customer calls, internet inquiries, phone leads, and live chat inquiries are responded to quickly and professionally using approved scripts, templates, and best practices.
- Sales Support: Partner with the sales and service departments to align BDC activities with dealership goals; ensure customers receive accurate initial product information and are directed to the appropriate dealership resources.
- Lead Management: Oversee follow-up processes for leads not ready to make an appointment, no-shows, and long-term nurture campaigns; ensure CRM tracking is utilized daily and consistently across the team.
- Process Development: Lead team and process development sessions; identify bottlenecks, implement improvements, and maintain positive relationships with teammates, sales teams, and dealership management.
- Performance Reporting: Track, analyze, and report on key department metrics (response times, appointment set rates, show rates, conversion rates) to dealership management; recommend data-driven strategies for improvement.
- Standards & Compliance: Maintain professional appearance in accordance with company dress code; ensure team adherence to all dealership policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications / Skills
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in customer service, business development, or a related field, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory or team lead role; automotive dealership experience strongly preferred.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team; excellent team collaborative attitude and eagerness to work with others.
- Communication: Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer communication skills; comfortable interacting with customers, team members, and dealership leadership at all levels.
- CRM & Technology: Proficiency with CRM tracking systems and comfort using digital communication tools (email, live chat, internet lead platforms).
- Time Management: Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual: Not required but preferred.
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory background check required.
