Job Summary

Library Maintenance Workers perform interior and exterior maintenance and cleaning tasks to provide a clean, safe, comfortable, productive environment for Library customers and staff members.

Typical Schedule:
Mondays - Fridays: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm
(Hours are somewhat negotiable)

Location:
Central Library, with travel and assignment to other Brown County Library branches as needed
Essential Duties

1. Clean and provide general upkeep of Library buildings, inside and outside
a. Clean interior facilities, including:
  • Vacuum, shampooing and cleaning carpets
  • Stripping, cleaning and waxing floors
  • Cleaning furniture, ceilings and walls
  • Sanitizing restrooms

b. Change lamps, clean and repair fixtures as needed

c. Maintain exterior grounds by raking, mowing, pruning, watering and removing snow

d. Wash the interior and exterior of Library buildings

e. Remove garbage and recycling

f. Maintain and perform minor repair on equipment and furniture such as snow blowers, mowers, air conditioners, furniture, and shelving

g. Provides support to other library staff members in monitoring and correcting problem customer behavior

h. Set up and/or deliver furniture, supplies and equipment for library events and programs

i. Perform special projects as necessary (such as assembling furniture, scaffolding, unclogging sewer systems, painting, etc.)

2. Perform office work regarding maintenance
a. Maintain documentation as required

b. Comply with all safety and quality assurance standards and procedures

3. Support the mission and strategic goals of the Library
a. Assist Library customers locating library departments, meeting spaces and events

b. Assist Library customers and staff connecting and troubleshooting audio/visual connections and setups.

c. Perform other related duties as needed or assigned

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:

High School Diploma, plus three years of experience in general custodial work; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Demonstrate proficient knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in general housekeeping and maintenance
  2. Demonstrate basic knowledge of library operations, services and materials
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of minor repair techniques for maintaining equipment
  4. Effectively operate various types of maintenance equipment
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of paint types and their applications
  6. Recognize and report safety issues and problems
  7. Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
  8. Represent the Library in a responsible, professional, and trustworthy manner
  9. Establish and maintain cooperative and courteous working relationships with staff and diverse customer base
  10. Work independently with minimum supervision
  11. Appropriately multitask and prioritize
  12. Work efficiently while paying close attention to detail
  13. Follow detailed verbal and written instructions
  14. Perform repetitive, routine procedures
  15. Meet the flexible scheduling needs of the Library
  16. Adapt to changes in the work environment
  17. Demonstrate basic computer skills, including keyboarding, word processing and email.
  18. Effectively use general office equipment, including but not limited to computer, printer, photocopier, and telephone
