General Description

Performs skilled work at the journey level in the installation and repair of locks and making keys.

Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of the locksmith trade or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.

Preferences
  • Associate's Degree or higher in relevant field
  • Certified Locksmith Certification (CRL)
  • Certified Professional Locksmith (CPL)
  • Certified Master Locksmith (CML)
  • 1 years of Lock Picking Tools/Key-Cutting Hardware Experience
  • 1 years of Carpentry, Preventative Maintenance, or Electrical Work Experience
  • 1 years of Customer Service Experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to obtain/maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) access with Customs and Border Protection Seal.
Ability to obtain / maintain Airfield driving privileges.
Ability to obtain and maintain Airfield non-movement area driving privileges.

All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a twenty-four (24) hour per day/seven (7) days per week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement, if applicable.

All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.

The employee must be able to work in various locations/environments including office, warehouse, airport terminals and the airfield.

Aviation Department Maintenance Division Staff are all essential positions. At any given time, staff may be required to be on the Airfield, in the Terminals, or in a work environment which conditions may expose them to weather, humid conditions; smoke, fumes or dust; tight or confined spaces; hazardous materials; or shaking, rocking and or vibrating equipment, loud noise, stairs and ramps, and large moving equipment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Repairs and opens defective locks; changes lock combinations; disassembles door locks, padlocks, combination locks, and handcuffs; replaces worn or broken parts; changes tumblers for new combinations; uses lock pick to open locks where no key is available; makes new and duplicate keys using key cutting machine; changes combinations on keyless locks and or safes.

Generates master key systems using appropriate computer software and maintains these records; makes repairs to jail electrical lock system; adjusts timers, line brushes, solenoids, capacitors, resistors, rectifiers and related parts of lock systems.

Fabricates parts for repair of obsoletes locks using drill press, lathe, grinders and special hand tools.

Installs master key floor and building lock systems; works with journey level tradesmen in the installation of locks in wood and metal doors.

Researches materials needed for jobs via multiple resources; co-ordinates with outside contractors and follows up to completion of work to county standards; attends meetings for planning and updating work orders.

Performs related work as assigned.
