  1. High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree preferred in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Public Information or related field; An evaluation of foreign degree may be required. 
  2. One (1) year experience performing moderately complex clerical and administrative support work that demonstrates ability to maintain accurate records, prioritize multiple tasks, and exercise independent judgment and decision making preferably in a law enforcement, corrections or criminal justice environment.
  3. Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance.  
  4. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.
Incumbents are required to acquire FCIC/NCIC Certification within one (1) month of hire.

Work Schedule
The position of Confinement Status Specialist I is scheduled flexibly. Employees in this classification may be required to work varying shifts (6:00 a.m. - 2:15 p.m., 6:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m., 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m., 9:00 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., 10:00 a.m. - 6:15 p.m., 11:00 a.m. - 7:15 p.m. and 12:00 p.m.– 8:15 p.m.). Please be advised that you may be required to work weekends and holidays.

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to process, input, maintain, and update inmate confinement records within the Department of Detention.  Employee reviews all inmate data and information regarding current holding status, booking, release, court appearances, or related information in order to track an inmate’s confinement status. Position reviews and applies court orders and legal document to ensure the accurate and lawful detention, transfer, and release of inmates. Position is responsible for preparing required court documents for transfer to other court ordered programs and/or institutions. Employee in this classification attends Magistrate court to hear judge’s findings and updates inmate records into the Jail Management System (JMS). Position researches and resolves record discrepancies and communicates with courts, law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and staff regarding an inmate’s status.  Performs related work as directed.

Processes, inputs, updates, and maintains inmate confinement status records in the Jail Management System (JMS) i.e. court orders, disposition, warrants, writs, and booking.

Reviews and interprets court orders, warrants, release paperwork, sentencing documents, and accurately apply the information to the inmate's arrest records.

Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies or conflicts in inmate records by researching legal documents and collaborating with stakeholders.

Accurately enter, update, and maintain inmate arrest information in the Jail Management System (JMS), including booking, confinement status, release dates, and court appearances.

Verify sentencing information, calculates credit for time served, and ensure compliance with release dates and court orders.

Attends Magistrate court to hear the judge's findings; updates inmate arrest records accordingly.

Coordinate assignments to In Custody/Out of Custody programs, warrantless arrests, and Baker Acts.

Files arrest records by current status of inmate confinement.

Responds to inquiries concerning the status of an inmate based upon current written guidelines.

May attend and testify at depositions, trials, or other court functions.

Performs related duties as directed.

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Tasks are performed in a corrections environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with routine conditions in a corrections detainment environment.
