General Description
Performs a variety of general building and grounds related maintenance and repairs at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks. Works in and around the Airport property and grounds with the primary function of keeping the property and grounds clean and free of debris.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) months in maintenance or closely related experience.
Special Certifications And Licenses Required
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
Additional Requirements
Ability to obtain/maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) access with Customs and Border Protection Seal.
Ability to obtain / maintain Airfield driving privileges.
All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a twenty-four (24) hour per day/seven (7) days per week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement, if applicable.

Maintains grounds and landscape areas in order to ensure that grounds and landscape areas are presentable, clean, and safe.
Patch asphalt, install/mend fences, perform runway/taxiway and roadway repairs, use hand and power tools, and assist trades and other Airport employees as needed.
Remove and install signage throughout the Airport campus.
Performs a variety of facility maintenance work in order to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and County employees, minimize major repair/replacement costs, and/or extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures.
Cleans offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks, in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff; moves a variety of furniture and related items in order to relocate/rearrange work stations/offices, set up for meetings, activities, and events.
Interacts with the public and/or other County employees in order to give directions/information, explain work activities/procedures, identify their service needs, and/or resolve day-to-day operational issues.
Sets out temporary traffic control devices at the work site in order to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe, efficient traffic flow.
Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management System software in order to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.
Maintains a variety of landscape and construction related equipment in order to ensure that the equipment operates safely and appropriately when needed, extend the useful life of the equipment, minimize down time, and minimize major repair/replacement costs.
Performs related work as assigned.
Additional Duties & Responsiblilites
Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including, hot, humid, cold, wet, damp conditions, with fumes, dust and loud noise.
Work in elevated positions, climbing ramps, and small cramped areas.
Operate an electronic handheld device including e-mail.
Must be able to follow directives and communicate clearly with coworkers, technicians and mechanics on any faults, errors or other problems and situations that may arise.
Follow safety directives and use sound judgment.
Stand and walk for extended periods of time, climb ladders & stairs.
Perform light janitorial work to clean in and around work areas and associated areas and equipment.
Must be able to work all available shifts in a 24/7 environment. Shifts include: 0700-1500, 1500-2300 or 2300-0700. Work schedules consist of working five days with two days off during the week.
Adheres to local, state and federal regulatory requirements as applicable to area of assignment.
All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.
Aviation Department Facilities/Maintenance Division Staff are all essential positions. At any given time, staff may be required to be on the Airfield, in the Terminals, or in a work environment which conditions may expose them to weather, humid conditions; smoke, fumes or dust; tight or confined spaces; hazardous materials; or shaking, rocking and or vibrating equipment, loud noise, stairs and ramps, and large moving equipment.
