General Description
Performs supervisory work in the field of animal care and regulation and in the operation of kennel facilities.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years in the professional care and control of animals in the field, a kennel or shelter facility and one (1) additional year of supervisory or leader worker experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license at time of appointment, and must obtain and maintain the authority to drive on County business.
Certification in Euthanasia and Chemical Capture (depending on area of assignment).
Certification as an Animal Control Officer (depending on area of assignment).
Preferences
1 years experience working in a supervisory role in an animal related field
1 years experience working with rescue groups, foster programs, or community cat initiatives
1 years experience working with Chameleon.
Ability to speak and read Spanish and/or Creole.

This position is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates selected for employment will be subject to pre-employment verifications to include but not limited to; post-offer physical examination/drug test and clearance of the Department of Children and Families Affidavit of Good Moral Character.

The key responsibilities of this position are to support the placement of shelter animals through alternatives to traditional adoption. This includes managing the Foster, Transfer/Rescue, and Community Cat programs. The role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with partners and the public, coordinating the movement of animals in and out of the shelter, and ensuring high standards of care. The position also involves co-supervising daily operations alongside the Intake Supervisor to ensure smooth collaboration between the Admissions, Kennel, and Medical teams. - Supervising the Alternative Placement team and collaborating with the Intake Supervisor on implementation of related protocols and processes
- Directly supervising all Administrative Coordinators (Alternative Placement) and indirectly overseeing all Customer Services Representatives (Intake) and assigned volunteers
- Overseeing the Broward Buddies, Community Cat, Foster, and Transfer Programs
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with transfer partners, foster parents, community cat advocates, and volunteers, while identifying new partnership opportunities
- Coordinating and facilitating the movement of pets in and out of the shelter, including transport using a county vehicle
- Managing staff time cards, time off requests, and shortages appropriately to guarantee adequate coverage of all assigned areas
- Reviewing staff work for procedural or administrative accuracy; preparing and delivering performance evaluations when needed
- Monitoring and responding to team communications; ensuring timely and appropriate responses to public inquiries
- Coaching and mentoring staff, leading team huddles, mitigating staff complaints/issues as they arise, and initiating disciplinary action as required
- Recommending and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to improve internal processes and create efficiencies
- Planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services; preparing reports and ensuring accurate entry of animal records in the shelter's software
- Communicating and interacting with other shelter sections and the public; explaining policies and procedures when needed
- Participating in 'Daily Population Rounds' to monitor the behavioral and medical health of all shelter pets
- Assisting with pathway planning for all animals
- Performing related work as assigned.
