What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Safety Officer Part Time, Multiple Vacancies (College Wide) position at Broward College?
The purpose of the job is to serve as a first responder who provides emergency and non-emergency public safety services to the Broward College community. Responsible for fostering a safe and secure environment and acting as a deterrent to crime and unsafe behaviors through a variety of proactive patrol techniques/strategies and crime prevention/awareness measures.
Responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws, and college policies and procedures. Investigates, responds to, and documents crimes, disturbances, and other public safety-related incidents occurring at Broward College.
Performs related work as directed.
The Public Safety Officer must be able to successfully complete the Public Safety Academy when scheduled to attend, usually within the first six months of their initial hire date as a Public Safety Officer.
This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Minimum Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate Degree or college credit hours in a public safety related field preferred.
Minimum Experience/Training:
- Minimum of one year prior experience in related field of work required.
- Prior experience in campus public safety/law enforcement, or related public safety discipline preferred.
Minimum Certification/Licenses:
- Must be able to successfully obtain CPR with AED certification within six month of initial hire date.
- Florida Class D Security Officer License or active law enforcement certification required.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days after being employed by the College. Valid Florida Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment.
- Certification in first aid preferred.
- Ability to use fire extinguishers, golf carts, and patrol vehicles required.
Salary Range: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
