POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician II supports the Facilities Services Department in the meticulous maintenance of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) and Parker Playhouse (PP) facilities and their mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and electrical systems and to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers to ensure the BCPA's environment and physical appearance supports the Performing Arts Center Authority's (PACA) image as a premiere performing arts center.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Maintenance Manager and other departments to ensure prompt and accurate response in implementing projects requested by staff.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager with implementing new work projects and work methods.
  • Estimate time and materials required for proposed jobs and submit requisition forms and specifications for supplies and materials.
  • Communicate with the Facilities Services Coordinator with the status and/or clearance of assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain records of jobs performed indicating operating characteristics and any problems.
  • Perform manual work as required in the areas of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, refrigeration, mechanical, HVAC, and other related maintenance work utilizing appropriate hand and power tools, equipment, and materials as needed.
  • Monitor the HVAC Roth energy management computer system for shows as scheduled.
  • Support the maintenance of the facility in accordance with ADA requirements.
  • Remain current in maintenance strategies and all applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Attend facilities specific training to learn and apply new knowledge and skills in their roles.
  • Maintain an inventory of daily expendable items, i.e., light bulbs, HVAC filters, etc.
  • Recommend building repairs and improvements when required.
  • Will be on call to respond to situations as directed by Director of Facilities Services, the Maintenance Manager, or as needed.
  • Provide technical support to internal customers in all life safety activities 
  •  Continuously work towards maintaining the facility's optimal appearance and environment.
  • Maintain communication with the Maintenance Manager, staff, and vendors in order ensure optimal maintenance. 
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to maintain a physical presence at designated work location, maintain regular attendance and punctuality and work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally. 
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance of building and utilities.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining the finest facility environment and its impact on promoting a positive image of the BCPA and Parker Playhouse
  • Basic construction blueprint reading skills
  • Skilled in the use and care of hand and power tools, equipment, and materials used in all aspects of facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, the Clear Air Act, and of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with all aspects of facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge if county building codes, and city and state electrical codes relating to the operation and maintenance of safe structures.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and techniques.
  • Able to replace refrigeration compressors, service cooling towers, rebuild or replace pumps, and service and repair VAV boxes.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude with basic HVAC equipment.
  • Able to organize, implement, and coordinate facility projects and perform assignments independently.
  • Able to work with a minimum of technical supervision.
  • Able to perform heavy labor for extended periods of time and lift 100 lbs.
  • Able to maintain accurate and orderly records.
  • Able to operate a computer system.
  • Must be self-motivated and a self-starter.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

 DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate from college or technical school and/ any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Prior supervisor experience preferred.
  • Licensed Refrigeration or Electrician Journeyman preferred.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • Experience in pneumatic controls.
  • Experience with building automation systems (Roth System preferred).
