About: Broome Street Temple is a vibrant spiritual community in the heart of Manhattan. We are a sacred space for the Hindu community, Yoga practitioners, meditators and spiritual seekers who wish to connect with Indic culture, celebrations, milestones, practices, and daily worship.
We are seeking an experienced, visionary, and compassionate leader to serve as our next director, and guide our community into its next chapter.
The Role: The Director serves as the administrative and organizational leader of Broome Street Temple. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this individual will be responsible for sustaining and growing our community, stewarding our resources, and upholding our values in all that we do. This is a two-year interim position.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and care
- Serve as the primary point of contact for members, staff, and external partners
- Oversee day-to-day temple operations, ensuring a welcoming and well-run environment for all
Fundraising & Financial Stewardship
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including major gifts, annual campaigns, grants, and events
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and community partners
- Work closely with the Board to maintain financial health and long-term sustainability
Community & Programmatic Leadership
- Champion the temple's mission and serve as its public face within the broader Manhattan community
- Oversee programming, events, and initiatives that deepen engagement and serve the congregation's needs
- Partner with the Board on strategic planning and organizational growth
- Guide collaborations with the larger Indian community
What We're Looking For
- 5 years of demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role, ideally with experience in faith-based, nonprofit, or community-led organizations
- Proven track record in fundraising, donor relations, and development
- Strong people management skills with experience leading diverse teams
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking abilities
- Deep respect for and alignment with the values and mission of Broome Street Temple
- Must be authorized to work in the United States - we are unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time
- Fluency in at least one South Asian language (e.g., Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi) is required.
