What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Dietitian position at Broome County Council of Churches?
PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Dietitian will assist the executive chef in planning meals clinically designed for the medically tailored meals (MTMs) program. They will ensure that meals meet specific dietary requirements for individuals with chronic illnesses on a case-by-case basis. The Dietitian will meet with clients to determine the proper diet for each individual and offer guidance on meal choices.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work directly with clients on a menu plan tailored to their specific needs
- Assist the executive chef in designing highly flexible and interchangeable menus that can be tailored for chronic illness management, meeting an ever-changing host of clients’ needs.

- Demonstrate flexibility in a highly dynamic workplace.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of staff in the preparation of MTMs.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Dietitian in the state of New York
- Familiarity with medical diets and meal modifications for chronic illness (low-sodium, diabetic-friendly, renal diet, pureed diet, etc.)
- Demonstrate a passion for fighting food insecurity and providing healthy meals to the underserved.
- Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment use and cleaning a plus
- Able to understand menu and recipes
- Able to work independently and in teams
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50lb
WORK SETTING:
This position requires an individual to be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. and includes bending and standing for long periods. The incumbent must maintain skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate the following equipment and machines used in the performance of this job: kitchen equipment (i.e., oven, kettle, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer, and chef's knives) and the telephone. Work settings will include office, warehouse, and mobile grocery store sites throughout Broome County.
