What are the responsibilities and job description for the CHOW® Food Acquisition Specialist position at Broome County Council of Churches?
PURPOSE OF POSITION: This role involves engaging with members of the food industry to procure essential food items for our partner agencies and special programs. The Food Acquisition Specialist will serve as a central point of contact, responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with product donors. Additionally, the position includes active participation in warehouse operations and inventory management to ensure seamless coordination of the acquired food items..
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement strategic resourcing tactics to meet food solicitation goals.
- Identify and recruit new donors within the industry from our service area; maintain relationships through donor relations programs.
- Develop and execute approaches to enhance sustainable contributions from current donors and the monitor and report outcomes.
- Assist internally in the education and movement of fresh/perishable foods.
- Develop donor relationships and ensure long-term donor retention.
- Organize and manage multiple projects, setting priorities, and working independently under aggressive timelines with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
- Assist in the observation of current practices/procedures and makes recommendations for change.
- Assist in warehouse operations, including the preparation of pantry/Broome Bounty orders.
- Operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment proficiently.
- Abides by and assists in the enforcing of all warehouse policies and health department rules and regulations.
- Provide technical assistance to food bank staff and our partner agencies when needed.
- Collect, analyze, and report data on items within the industry and sourcing activities.
- Oversee the inventory of obtained food, ensuring timely removal of perishable items and resolving any associated issues.
- Utilize the inventory management system for effective tracking and control.
- Assists with deliveries and pickups as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires the ability to read, write, understand job instructions, match numbers, and maintain inventory records, and use a variety of software packages such as for spreadsheets and databases. Needs to have a high school diploma or GED. Valid clean NYS drivers license is required. Experience in material handling and/or material planning is highly desired. Needs to have good communication skills including ability to persuade others in securing cooperation and/or resolving problems. Needs to be able to work in a team environment and demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and dependability. Needs to be able to cope with stressors and demands that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable and defined levels of performance are maintained. Forklift experience is desired. Ability to lift 50 pounds required.
WORK SETTING:
Works in a warehouse as well as an office setting. Is required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. When required, needs to be able to spend significant amounts of time in front of a computer terminal keyboarding data. Must feel comfortable driving a larger cargo van for extended periods of time and over long distances.

Pay range: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
