What You'll Do
- Lead overhead transmission line design and engineering from conceptual development through construction support, including preparation and review of designs, calculations, specifications, and construction packages
- Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations for transmission projects
- Conduct conductor selection studies, clearance evaluations, grounding studies, lightning performance analysis, and other transmission engineering calculations
- Apply NESC, NERC, FERC, and utility-specific design standards throughout project execution
- Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational, commercial, governmental, and military facilities
- Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, equipment specifications, and project deliverables
- Support project managers with engineering service estimates, project planning, and proposal development efforts
- Participate in client meetings and provide technical consultation throughout project execution
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including civil, structural, substation, and project management groups
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers as project needs require
- Support field visits, site inspections, and construction-related activities as needed
- Contribute to both project execution and client relationship development within a growing transmission practice
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural Engineering, or related discipline from an ABET-accredited program
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain or transfer PE licensure in Florida
- 7 years of overhead transmission line engineering experience
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD and other transmission engineering design tools
- Strong understanding of transmission engineering principles, design standards (NESC, NERC, FERC), and industry best practices
- Experience supporting overhead transmission line projects in utility, consulting, or EPC environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to independently execute engineering work and contribute to project success with minimal oversight
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or serving as a technical lead on project teams
- Ability to work directly with clients and project stakeholders in a professional, consultative manner
- Experience supporting project proposals and engineering estimates (preferred)
- Familiarity with regional utility clients and transmission infrastructure programs (preferred)
