Senior F5 Load Balancer Consultant (SME)
Location: Remote (Occasional onsite travel for project kickoffs, planning sessions, and critical migrations)
Duration: 6–9 Month Contract
Overview
Our healthcare client is seeking a Senior F5 Load Balancer Consultant to lead the modernization of its enterprise load balancing environment. This consultant will serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME), responsible for assessing the current environment, leading complex F5 migrations, documenting operational procedures, and transferring knowledge to the internal engineering team.
This engagement is focused on delivering a stable, scalable, and supportable F5 environment while establishing long-term operational best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead migrations from legacy load balancers to F5 BIG-IP with minimal downtime.
- Assess the current load balancing environment and recommend modernization strategies.
- Design, configure, and implement enterprise F5 solutions following industry best practices.
- Perform advanced packet capture analysis and troubleshooting using Wireshark.
- Configure and support SSL Offloading, SSL Bridging, and application delivery services.
- Develop technical documentation, architecture documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and operational runbooks.
- Partner with network architects and infrastructure engineers throughout implementation.
- Provide recommendations for lifecycle management, platform upgrades, and future-state architecture.
- Deliver knowledge transfer and technical mentoring to internal engineering teams.
- Ensure a smooth transition of operational ownership upon project completion.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience designing, implementing, and supporting F5 BIG-IP environments.
- Proven experience leading legacy load balancer to F5 migration projects.
- Strong expertise with F5 Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and enterprise Application Delivery Controllers (ADC).
- Advanced Wireshark experience performing packet-level analysis and troubleshooting.
- Expert-level knowledge of SSL Offloading and SSL Bridging.
- Experience developing technical documentation, architecture documentation, SOPs, and operational procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across enterprise networking and application delivery environments.
- Ability to work independently as the primary technical SME.

- Experience modernizing enterprise network infrastructure.
- Experience within healthcare or other highly regulated industries.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
