What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Improvement Consultant position at Brooksource?
Process Improvement Consultant
Charlotte, NC
We are seeking a Process Improvement Consultant to support Consulting Services engagements by analyzing current-state processes, identifying pain points and inefficiencies, and co-designing practical, future-state solutions. This role partners closely with business leaders, cross-functional teams, and internal consultants to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and experience of critical business processes.
This is a hands-on, problem-solving role for someone who is equally comfortable mapping a process, facilitating a room, and turning insight into action.
Key Responsibilities
Process Analysis & Design
- • Assess current-state processes through stakeholder interviews, workshops, data analysis, and observation.
- • Identify pain points, bottlenecks, redundancies, risks, and waste across people, process, and technology.
- • Design future-state processes that improve flow, clarity, customer experience, and outcomes.
- • Develop clear process maps, journey maps, value stream maps, and swimlane diagrams.
Improvement & Execution Support
- • Identify and recommend process improvement opportunities using Lean, continuous improvement, or human-centered design approaches.
- • Partner with teams to prioritize improvements based on impact, effort, and feasibility.
- • Support implementation through pilots, experiments, and iterative improvements.
- • Define success metrics and help teams track and sustain improvements.
Facilitation & Collaboration
- • Facilitate working sessions, workshops, and problem-solving meetings with diverse stakeholders.
- • Translate complex process challenges into simple, shared understanding.
- • Act as a trusted advisor—balancing analytical rigor with empathy and influence.
Consulting Services Support
- • Work as part of an internal consulting team, supporting multiple engagements across the enterprise.
- • Contribute to consulting playbooks, templates, and best practices.
- • Coach teams and leaders on process thinking and continuous improvement mindsets.
Core Process Improvement Skills
- Lean fundamentals – value stream mapping, waste identification, flow, pull, standard work
- Problem solving – A3 thinking, root cause analysis (5 Whys, fishbone), hypothesis testing
- Process mapping – current-state / future-state design across functions (not just swim lanes for fun)
- Metrics & measurement – defining leading vs. lagging indicators, baselining, benefits tracking
- Continuous improvement mindset – PDCA / PDSA, experimentation, learning loops
- Collaborate with a cross functional team to analyze how work actually happens and design practical improvements that stick.
Required Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- • 5 years of experience in process improvement, operations, consulting, or continuous improvement roles.
- • Proven experience analyzing current-state vs. future-state processes.
- • Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- • Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative inputs into clear, actionable insights.
- • Experience creating process documentation and visuals (process maps, journey maps, value streams).
Preferred Qualifications
- • Experience in internal consulting, management consulting, or enterprise transformation environments.
- • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
- • Exposure to human-centered design or customer experience improvement.
- • Experience working in large, matrixed organizations.
- • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) or equivalent is a plus.
Bonus points:
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt / Black Belt)
- Operations, Industrial Engineering, Systems, or similar background
- Internal consulting, ops excellence, or transformation roles
Core Skills & Attributes
• Systems thinker who sees end-to-end flow, not just local optimization.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and “messy middle” problems.
• Strong communicator—able to meet people where they are.
• Pragmatic: focused on real improvement, not theoretical perfection.
• Curious, collaborative, and improvement-obsessed (in a healthy way).
