Job Summary
Brooksource is seeking an experienced HR consultant to support a large-scale IT job classification and workforce transformation initiative for a public-sector IT organization. This consultant will help modernize legacy IT job classifications by assessing current roles, designing future-state job architecture, and aligning roles with market standards, career paths, and workforce planning needs. The engagement focuses on creating a clear, consistent, and future-ready IT job structure through collaboration with HR and IT leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct analysis of current-state IT job classifications, roles, and position descriptions, including how employees are currently placed within those roles
- Develop and document future-state job classifications, levels, and role descriptions
- Partner with internal HR leadership and IT stakeholders to support a comprehensive IT job transformation initiative
- Support the shift from legacy job classifications to a future-state, skills-informed job architecture
- Align IT roles to standardized job families, job levels, and career pathways
- Provide market-informed insights and best practices related to IT workforce transformation
- Support the integration of job architecture into broader workforce planning initiatives
- Prepare executive-level summaries, decision briefs, and implementation guidance
- Assist in developing communication and change support materials to enable adoption
- Lead or support job classification remapping from legacy structures to new or revised job families, job levels, and career paths
- Facilitate workshops and working sessions with IT leaders and employees to validate role scope, skill requirements, and job leveling
- Translate technical IT work into clear, standardized job descriptions aligned with HR classification standards
- Ensure alignment with:
- Job architecture frameworks
- Career progression models
- Compensation and classification guidelines
- Organizational design principles
- Develop mapping documentation, decision rationales, and audit-ready artifacts
- Advise on best practices for IT workforce transformation based on market standards
- Support change management by preparing leadership-facing summaries and implementation guidance
- Coordinate and consult with internal HR classification, compensation, and legal teams as needed
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience in HR job classification, job architecture, or workforce transformation
- Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale job classification remapping efforts
- Prior work with technical or IT organizations (e.g., infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development, data, cloud, DevOps)
- Strong ability to translate complex technical roles into standardized HR job structures
- Experience working in matrixed environments with HR and IT leadership
- Familiarity with consulting-led job transformation methodologies
- Excellent facilitation, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience supporting public sector, government, or highly regulated environments
- Exposure to or participation in similar job architecture frameworks within large professional services organizations
- Experience aligning job classifications to:
- Skills-based models
- Career pathways
- Workforce planning initiatives
- Change management or organizational design experience
