Job Description
Brookside Lumber Inc has an immediate opening for a Saw Filer. This position will be filled by an experienced filer. All candidates must be safety conscious, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, be experienced in working with other crafts, and have a desire to work in a market focused, team environment.
Candidates selected for this position will bench and grind band saws, hammer and sharpen carbide saws, troubleshoot and work on filing equipment, and align sawmill equipment.
Located in Moravia NY, Brookside Lumber Inc specializes in the production of green and kiln dried hardwood lumber. We utilize a modern sawmill and drying facility, producing high quality lumber, timbers, and other proprietary and custom products.
General Job Description
Key Functions: The Saw Filer will be responsible filing room activities consisting of, but not limited to:
- Participate in safety meetings and activities as determined by team and mill norms and standards
- Benching and fitting bandsaws
- Sharpening, tipping and benching round saws
- Honing and maintaining knives
- Pour babbit, maintenance of guides and maintaining guide plane
- Complete PMs for sawmill and saw shop machinery as required
- Participate in reliability task teams or activities as required
- Help coach apprentices/operators to learn saw filing trade and help with PMs
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Mechanical background and aptitude
- Experienced with sawmill mechanics, saw change-outs, Bandmill alignment. Such as crossline between guides and wheels.
- Process two-years working experience as a band saw filer and/or two-years precision Millwright experience.
- Knowledge of using precise measuring equipment, i.e., micrometers and dial indicators, etc.
- Good communication skills
- Have a good work record – safety and dependability
- Self-motivated and able to follow instructions precisely
- Be able to read, write and follow specific printed directions
- Ability to troubleshoot lumber for quality and size control
- Understanding of machine alignment procedures
- Resume detailing education and work history required for consideration
