Speech Language Pathologist (2096)

Position Summary : Speech-Language Pathologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with aphasia and primary progressive aphasia within an aphasia center setting. This role applies evidence-based, person-centered therapeutic approaches to support communication recovery, functional participation, and improved quality of life for people with aphasia.

Department: Outpatient - Brooks Rehab Aphasia Center

Hours: M-F; Full-Time

Compensation: Experience and education may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

Primary Responsibilities in ICAP program

• Evaluate adults with aphasia and primary progressive aphasia, apraxia of speech, and cognitive-communication disorders utilizing aphasia friendly standardized and functional assessment measures.
• Develop individualized person-centered treatment plans with measurable, salient goals that promote communication, life participation, and quality of life for people with aphasia in the ICAP program.
• Provide and implement intensive, functional, and person-centered interventions to improve spoken language, reading, writing, comprehension, and social communication skills utilizing life participation approaches in six week ICAP program.
• Educate and train people with aphasia, families, caregivers, students, and community partners regarding aphasia, communication strategies, and recovery after stroke or brain injury.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, community partners, and referral sources to ensure coordinated care and optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in program development, quality improvement initiatives, and outcome tracking to support the mission of the Aphasia Center.

Aphasia Group Responsibilities (Secondary)

• Plan, coordinate, and facilitate communication groups for individuals with aphasia across varying severity levels.
• Develop engaging, evidence-based group activities that target communication, social participation, self-advocacy, and life participation goals.
• Utilize Supported Conversation tools and other communication supports to maximize participation and inclusion.
• Train and mentor volunteers, students, and group facilitators in aphasia-friendly communication techniques.
• Assist team with Aphasia Center events, awareness initiatives, education and community advocacy programs.

Additional Preferred Responsibilities

• Supervise graduate student clinicians, Clinical Fellows, or volunteers as assigned.
• Support development of new aphasia programming, intensive treatment programs, caregiver education initiatives, and community initiatives for people with aphasia.
• May perform other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

• Must have a state SLP license with the Department of Professional Regulations.
• Minimum Master's degree
• Must be certified with ASHA (CCC)
• Hands-on BLS Card.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
• Adheres to policies and procedures specific to patient rights.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment; identifies and reports hazards. Assures patients, guest, clients, and residents safety.
• Meets all requirements for mandatory in-services.
• Adheres to policies/procedures specific to universal precautions when delivering patient care.
