Site Superintendent – Heavy Civil Construction
Position Summary
The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations on heavy civil construction projects. This role manages field crews, subcontractors, and equipment while ensuring that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications.
This is a travel-based role that requires working at project sites across various locations.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations Management
- Oversee all day-to-day construction activities on the jobsite.
- Supervise field personnel including operators, laborers, foremen, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate earthwork, excavation, utilities, drainage, and grading operations.
Scheduling & Productivity
- Develop short-term schedules and coordinate daily work plans.
- Ensure manpower, equipment, and materials are properly allocated.
- Monitor productivity and ensure work progresses according to schedule.
Quality Control
- Ensure work is performed according to project plans, specifications, and standards.
- Coordinate inspections and testing requirements.
- Maintain as-built records and field documentation.
Safety Leadership
- Enforce company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct safety meetings and jobsite safety inspections.
- Promote a culture of safety among field personnel.
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate daily project updates to Project Managers and company leadership.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely project execution.
- Address and resolve field issues as they arise.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of experience in heavy civil construction.
- Proven experience supervising large-scale earthwork, grading, and utility installation projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction equipment and production methods.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and project specifications.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours as project demands require.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk active construction sites and uneven terrain for extended periods.
