Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital is seeking a part-time experienced veterinary assistant who is enthusiastic and detail-oriented, with a desire to learn and to be part of a collaborative and fun team.
Founded in 2019, Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital has quickly gained quite a following in Portland. We are an independently owned veterinary hospital in a sea of corporate clinics in the Portland area. Our practice supports both the physical and behavioral health of our patients, and we have an excellent reputation in the Portland area of doing just this through behavior support and carefully planned sedated examinations.
This individual will be an integral part of our hospital and must have impeccable communication skills, animal experience/animal handling, the ability to multi-task, and the desire to provide the best in patient care. The right candidate must be committed to providing an exceptional client and patient experience. The ideal applicant must have compassion for both people and animals, the ability to anticipate client and patient needs, the desire to learn new technical skills, and strive to always promote a polished image of our hospital. Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Room management & digital record keeping (our practice management system is Ezyvet and we also utilize SmartFlow for treatments and invoicing)
- Assisting veterinarians and Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT) with treatments and procedures
- Patient handling and restraint with an emphasis on low-stress handling/Fear Free
- Medication administration & filling prescriptions
- Venipuncture, vaccine administration
- Digital radiology
- Processing of laboratory samples for both in-house evaluation and reference lab service
- Cleaning and maintaining of the exam rooms, pharmacy, and general hospital maintenance
- Tackling projects as assigned

The requirements:
- A minimum of 1 year of recent experience working in a small animal veterinary hospital as a veterinary/technician assistant
- Availability to work Saturdays
- Reliability
- Ability to comfortably lift 40 lbs
- Have strong communication skills with the desire to be a part of a team.
