Job Summary
Brooklyn Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate possesses a strong passion for animal care and welfare, along with the technical skills necessary to assist veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to our patients. This role involves working closely with companion animals, their owners, and the veterinary team to ensure the health and well-being of threir treasured pets.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine laboratory tests, including blood work and urinalysis.
- Prepare animals for surgery and monitor them during recovery.
- Handle dogs, cats, and other animals safely and effectively.
- Maintain a clean and organized examination, treatment, surgical, radiology rooms, and kennel environment.
- Assist as needed with client-related services such as patient records, phone calls, patient/ client checking in and discharge. Familiarity with Cornerstone a benefit.
- Provide basic animal husbandry and grooming services as needed.
- Educate pet owners on proper care, nutrition, and training techniques.
- Experience with Fear Free techniques is a plus; if new to Fear Free, training is provided and required.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prevent infection during procedures.
- Take X-rays and assist in veterinary critical care situations.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a similar role is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of animal care practices. Free Fear techniques are recommended for stressed pets; if not yet familiar with these concepts, training will be provided.
- Familiarity with veterinary critical care protocols is a plus.
- Ability to perform basic grooming tasks for various breeds of pets.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with pet owners and team members.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- A certification or degree in Veterinary Technology is preferred but not required. Previous experience is preferred.
