Activities Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in implementing new and innovative activity programs that provide creative, physical, intellectual, social, vocational, emotional and spiritual opportunities for the residents.
• Prepares a summary of initial observations and makes specific activity recommendations in consultation with the resident.
• Attends all community planned functions and coordinates events from beginning to end including setup, running, and breaking down for the event.
• Attends programs, department meetings, and other meetings as requested.
• Distributes resident mail, daily newspapers, and monthly calendars.
• Prepares and operates equipment for therapeutic activities and ensures that adequate supplies and equipment are available as needed.
• Maintains records of residents’ participation in activities.
• Works within the context of the interdisciplinary team to assure that the Recreation Program supports the overall philosophy of care at Brooklyn United Methodist Church Home.
• Helps plan appropriate programs for holidays and special events.
• Coordinates holiday decorations for the community.
• Provides ongoing communication with residents and, as necessary, family members.
• Interacts with residents, guests and staff in an atmosphere of hospitality.
• Protects the privacy of the resident when communicating oral and written information.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.

MIMINUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High school Diploma and some college preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year full-time experience in Therapeutic Recreation preferred.
• Good physical coordination and stamina for energetic leadership.
• Ability to relate well to people, conveying warmth and interest in residents, families, and fellow staff members.
• Demonstrated cooperation with personnel, volunteers, and community members.
• Demonstrated initiative in creation new programs and approaches to care.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
