JOB TITLE:                 Assistant Preschool Teaching Aid

LOCATION:                 Brooklyn, NY

REPORTS TO:            Director

SALARY RANGE:     $22-$23 per hour

JOB SUMMARY

Small progressive nursery school in Park Slope Brooklyn is searching for a creative innovator, eager to be part of a collaborative team of educators. Under the direction of the Director, the floating Teacher is responsible for establishing a developmentally centered classroom environment conducive to the growth of children ages two to three. The position is for the hours of 10am-6pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom Environment

·      Uphold the mission of Brooklyn Sandbox through a Developmental-Interaction approach, high level of client service and proactive culture of family, teacher and child development

·      Support a play-based, child –centered, engaging and nurturing classroom culture that bridges the school and home environments

·      Assist the head teacher in the planning, preparation, maintenance and assessment of an emergent, Reggio Emilia inspired curriculum to target age appropriate milestones and developmental needs 

·      Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests and needs to facilitate learning and growth 

·      Demonstrate a positive relationship with fellow teachers in collaborating to meet developmental goals of each child

·      Participate in staff meetings, center activities and staff development

·      Perform other duties as required or assigned

·      Adhere to state mandated safety and health guidelines

Parent Relationship

·      Deliver the highest level of client service to families by supporting a caring community of parents, teachers, and children

·      Display interpersonal skills to build trust, rapport and connection with families

·      Foster parent collaboration and problem solving through responsive daily morning interaction, email correspondence and outreach to families

·      Collaborate with parents to identify Early Intervention resources for children with potential developmental delays

·      Contribute to personalized communications with all parents including newsletter, daily email recaps, pictures and biannual parent- teacher conferences

QUALIFICATIONS

·      Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study preferred

·      Minimum 2 years supervised experience as an assistant teacher in a program for children under six years of age 

·      Enthusiastic, fun leader with a nurturing and positive attitude and genuine commitment to development and learning

·      Excellent judgment, assessment as well as problem solving/decision making abilities

·      Strong client service and parent relationship building skills 

·      Effective organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills

·      Strong verbal and written communication skills

·      Must have experience with and a desire to work with a diverse population of students, parents, and teachers

·      Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word)
