Overview
Part of the Outreach Services department, Justice Initiatives works to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated patrons and their families and to raise public awareness of issues of racial, social, and economic justice.
Justice Initiatives is seeking a part-time Outreach Assistant to join our team. The Outreach Assistant will be involved in direct service to formerly incarcerated patrons and their families, outreach to communities and community-based organizations, coordinating programming and staff support. The successful candidate will report to the Coordinator of Justice Initiatives and will work closely with two Reentry Navigators.
This is a grant funded position until 12/31/2025.
Responsibilities
- Be a point of contact for formerly incarcerated patrons and their families seeking navigation support
- Provide administrative and logistical support for two Reentry Navigators
- Assist with reentry programming in multiple branches
- Assist with outreach to community-based organizations
- Assist with developing online and physical materials for formerly incarcerated patrons
- Assist with staff support and training
- Assist with collecting program data and providing reports as needed
- Participate in relevant trainings and meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Ability to work with a team and independently on projects
- Understanding of libraries and library services
- Knowledge of the justice system & it's impact on the community a plus
- Familiarity with internet, electronic databases, social media and basic computer applications
- Bilingual preferred
- Moderate lifting required – up to 25lbs
- Ability to work up to 28 hours per week, evenings as needed
- Ability to travel to library and community locations, including libraries in correctional facilites
- Salary: $23 - $25 per hour
In addition to the requirements listed above, successful candidates must complete a New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision volunteer application including a background check and fingerprinting.
