About The Role
The Museum Maintainer – Electric Shop is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable operation of the museum’s electrical infrastructure across galleries, public spaces, and back-of-house areas. Successful candidates bring strong technical knowledge, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering & Facilities Department, contractors, and exhibition teams to support the museum’s operational reliability and visitor experience.

About The Role
The Museum Maintainer – Electric Shop is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable operation of the museum’s electrical infrastructure across galleries, public spaces, and back-of-house areas. Successful candidates bring strong technical knowledge, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering & Facilities Department, contractors, and exhibition teams to support the museum’s operational reliability and visitor experience.
Responsibilities:
- Under general supervision, performs responsible work in the maintenance and repair and renovation of museum buildings, galleries, exhibition, equipment, and facilities and specialized work with regard to electrical wiring, installation, and repair of fixtures, gallery lighting, and maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Document work performed, inspections, and equipment conditions using the institution’s work order or maintenance management system.
- Erects and works from high ladders and scaffolds.
- Works with 277/480 volts, three-phase electrical systems, and performs work in accordance with applicable electrical codes.
- Perform work in a manner that protects artwork, collections, and sensitive gallery environments.
- Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical systems, lighting controls, panels, transformers, generators, and related equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and institutional maintenance programs.
- Diagnose electrical faults and system failures using appropriate testing instruments and technical procedures.
- Respond to electrical emergencies and power interruptions and support restoration of critical systems during emergency conditions.
- Maintain electrical rooms, closets, panels, and related spaces in a clean, orderly, and code-compliant condition. Ensure electrical rooms remain free of debris, combustible materials, and unauthorized storage, and that required clearances around electrical equipment are maintained in accordance with applicable safety and electrical codes.
- Maintain electrical inventory, tools, and materials required to support maintenance and repair operations.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a full-time electrician.
- Applicants will be given a written and practical exam.
- Ability to lift equipment and materials, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks requiring standing, climbing, and reaching for extended periods.
- Candidates are expected to hold or obtain within six months, the following certificates: OSHA 30-Hour certification. If not already obtained, the museum will sponsor the required training.
