Job Summary
Brooklyn Community Housing and Services seeks a dynamic and compassionate Activities Specialist to join our team at our Pacific Street location. The individual will setup and oversee Activity and Creative Arts programs which will assist clients in learning skills necessary to live in an independent community environment. The Specialist will work under the supervision of the Activities Coordinator and with program point people to develop and maintain activities and projects.
Program Development
Activities Specialist will setup and implement programming to address the following key areas:
- Assist with activities that are age and developmentally appropriate and support healthy development and self-sufficiency.
- Assist with therapeutic activities such as Art therapy, Horticultural Therapy, Drama and Music Therapy, etc.
- Assist with Wellness and exercise activities, nutrition groups, and cooking classes, as appropriate.
- Assist with the creation of a Pacific Street Residents Councils and Advisory Board.
- Assist with and arrange for opportunities for residents to experience local cultural events such as museum and Arts shows, theater, sporting events, etc.
- Assist with opportunities for creative expression for residents, including a book club and a newsletter.
- Assist with current events discussions and promote intergenerational programming whenever appropriate.
Documentation & QA Activities
Prepare timely documentation of all client services such as:
- Write group log and progress note for each participant in activity and distribute these as appropriate.
- Regularly monitor expenses regarding program supplies and maintain budget compliance.
- Prepare bi-weekly report and participate as needed in client Case Conference and Utilization Reviews.
Education
- Minimum of associate's degree in related field.
- Bachelor preferred.
Requirements
- At least two years experience in activities with special needs populations or families.
- Must be self-motivated and possess the capacity to develop and implement programming and proper documentation mechanisms.
- Must possess strong communication skills

Pay: $25.00 per hour
