Clinical Research Laboratory Technician
Location: Brooklyn, NY 11226

Brooklyn Clinical Research is a growing clinical research site conducting vaccine, cardiometabolic, pain, and other industry-sponsored clinical trials with leading pharmaceutical companies. Our mission is to advance medicine by expanding access to high-quality clinical research.
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Research Laboratory Technician to manage the day-to-day laboratory operations supporting our clinical trials. This position is primarily focused on accurate specimen processing, laboratory documentation, sample shipment, and maintaining an organized and inspection-ready laboratory.
The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment, and experienced with both laboratory specimen processing and phlebotomy.
Key Responsibilities
- Process clinical trial specimens according to study protocols and central laboratory instructions, including centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, storage, and preparation for shipment.
- Prepare laboratory kits, requisition forms, labels, and study-specific materials in advance of participant visits.
- Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures safely and efficiently, including challenging or “hard-stick” blood draws.
- Package and ship biological specimens in accordance with study requirements and applicable IATA regulations.
- Coordinate daily specimen shipments and pickups and troubleshoot courier delays or other shipping issues.
- Maintain accurate laboratory logs, specimen records, shipping documentation, and other study-required documentation.
- Track laboratory kits, phlebotomy supplies, shipping materials, dry ice, PPE, and other supplies, including expiration dates and inventory levels.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and temperature-monitoring logs and promptly identify and escalate out-of-range temperatures or equipment issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready laboratory environment.
- Communicate with central laboratories and study teams regarding specimen discrepancies, missing samples, redraws, or other laboratory issues.
- Track incoming laboratory results and ensure they are appropriately routed to the study team for review.
- Perform vital signs, ECGs, and other protocol-specific clinical procedures after appropriate training and delegation.
- Complete accurate, ALCOA -compliant source documentation for laboratory procedures and other delegated study activities.
- Support study coordinators with laboratory-related data entry, queries, logs, and documentation as needed.
- Assist with laboratory documentation and specimen records during sponsor monitoring visits, audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Collaborate closely with investigators, study coordinators, and other clinical staff to ensure protocol compliance and efficient participant visits.
- May be trained to assist with investigational product preparation or other specialized laboratory procedures when appropriate.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience with clinical laboratory specimen processing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, storage, and/or specimen shipment strongly preferred.
- At least 1 year of hands-on phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture independently and confidently; phlebotomy certification is preferred.
- Clinical research, central laboratory, hospital, outpatient laboratory, or similar healthcare experience preferred.
- Experience preparing and shipping biological specimens is strongly preferred.
- IATA Dangerous Goods training or prior experience with IATA-compliant shipments is preferred; training can be provided.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex written laboratory and study instructions precisely.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple studies, specimen types, and laboratory workflows simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable using electronic systems for documentation, data entry, inventory management, and study tracking.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with GCP, study protocols, SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Experience with ECGs, vital signs, investigational product preparation, or clinical research procedures is a plus.
Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their phlebotomy and laboratory-processing knowledge during the interview process.
